Mio Robot next generation is an educational robot for children produced by the Clementoni company in 2019. The robot is programmable and performs several actions, which aim to introduce children to electronics and robotics. With two infrared sensors it avoids obstacles and follows the movements of the hand, as well as drawing and collecting small objects with a magnet.

The Mio Robot app was born from the desire of Clementoni to expand the functionality of the robot. It includes an activity called "Real-time" which allows the child to use the smartphone or tablet as a remote control to manage movements, sounds and lighting effects of the robot. It also includes an activity for visual block programming, called "Coding", where the child can learn the principles of programming.

The app was developed during 2019 in collaboration with the WeTroll company, responsible for the project and programming. As lead artist I created the concepts, 2D graphics and animations and followed the creation of the 3D user interface, modeled and rendered by Pietro Solari.

I started the project by studying the design and operation of the robot. Technological functions, repeating circular shapes, white and orange colors and plastic materials, are the main features of Mio Robot, which receives commands from the app via ultrasound. All of these features are taken up to define the look of the app. Shapes, colors and materials are used in the interface elements, while ultrasound is visually translated with the blue color and a sound wave passing through the background. The blue, taken from the logo, also helps to highlight the main colors and the technological aspect of the robot.
